Brian P. Woolfolk, cofounder of a well-respected boutique lobbying shop, has joined Squire Sanders Public Advocacy, LLC (SSPA). Woolfolk is a principal with SSPA, the lobbying affiliate of global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P., and of counsel with the firm.

“Brian has an impressive background that combines years of working experience inside the US federal government with more than a decade as a lobbyist advising clients in key industries such as financial services, trade and telecommunications. We’re pleased Brian has decided to join Squire Sanders’ steadily growing government relations and public advocacy practice,” said practice leader Robert D. Lehman.

Before launching lobbying boutique Mattox Woolfolk, LLC, Woolfolk served as Democratic counsel on the House Judiciary Committee. He provided oversight and monitored the appropriations process for programs in agencies including the US Department of Justice, the Department of the Treasury, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the US Civil Rights Commission. He also served as legislative assistant in the office of US. Rep. Robert C. (Bobby) Scott of Virginia, who is now a senior member of the House Judiciary and Education and Labor committees.

Woolfolk said his move to SSPA was prompted by Squire Sanders’ strong industry focus and global platform, which includes an extensive presence in Latin America. The firm is the linchpin of Squire Sanders Legal Counsel Worldwide Network, a group of affiliated firms throughout Latin America. Woolfolk said Squire Sanders’ Latin America presence meshes well with his experience advising clients regarding trade issues with Brazil.

“My clients’ needs and the focus provided by SSPA and Squire Sanders are a good fit,” Woolfolk said. He received his J.D. in 1996 from The College of William & Mary and his B.A. in 1992 from University of Maryland.
